The Northern Ohio Golf Association kicked off the 2026 season with the Great Lakes Auto Scratch Series Stroke Play #1 and Season Long Match Play Qualifier on Monday at Congress Lake Club in Hartville, Ohio. Fifty-five Championship Division, twenty-nine Senior Division, and twelve Super Senior Division players competed for a title and seeding in the Season Long Match Play bracket.
With deep rough and gusty winds testing the field, only one of ninety-six players managed to break par.
Doug Barber was up to the challenge, posting a 2-under 69 to capture the Championship Division title by three strokes. Barber set the tone early and never looked back, finishing strong with a bogey-free back nine.
Garrett Frank trailed close behind Barber all day. Frank finished second with a 1-over 72 while still managing to claim the Match Play title and top seed in the bracket.
In the Senior Division, Howard Clendenin separated himself with an even-par 71 for a three-shot victory, while Mike Cassell claimed the Super Senior Division title with a 5-over 76.
The round also featured a highlight moment from Matthew Roth, who made a hole-in-one from 144 yards on hole two.
The next event on the NOGA Great Lakes Auto Scratch Series schedule is the Four-Ball #1 and Season Long Match Play Qualifier at Shady Hollow Country Club in Massillon on May 20th.
