Anthony Panepento of Canterbury Golf Club and amateur Ben Zimmer won the inaugural H.G. Fairhurst Memorial Pro-Am presented by Wentz Financial on Monday, June 8, at Congress Lake Club, posting 45 points in the 1 Best Ball of 2 Net Stableford competition.
Panepento and Zimmer combined for rounds of 32 and 30 to finish at 45 points, one point clear of three teams tied for second at 44. Blake Sattler of Brookside Country Club and Steve Roorda, Nathan Miklos of Youngstown State University and Steve Flanders, and Derek Smith of Red Tail Golf Club and Drew Gunn all shared runner-up honors.
Sean Kenily of Union Country Club and Mike Stokey finished fifth with 43 points, while six teams tied for sixth at 42 points.
In the professional division, Jim Troy of The Golf Dome and Michael Balcar of Brandywine Country Club shared medalist honors with 38 points. Stokey claimed the amateur net title with 41 points, four ahead of a group of players tied for second at 37.
Proceeds from the day benefitted the Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation’s PGA HOPE programming where free instruction is given to Veterans and Active Duty Military.
The next Northern Ohio PGA team event is the Pro-1 Am Scratch at Mayfield Country Club on Monday, June 15th.
