It was a dream finish for Blacklick’s Vaughn Harber. He stood on the 14th tee of The Lakes Golf & Country Club at 4-under-par, five shots off the projected cut line for a spot in the 126th U.S. Open at Shinnecock.
Then Harber played his final five holes in 5-under-par, going birdie-par-eagle-birdie-birdie to get to 9-under par. The fantastic finish earned him a spot in a 4-for-3 playoff with five-time PGA TOUR winner JB Holmes and amateurs Arni Sviensson and Sam Uldovich.
Then in the playoff, this happened:
SO CLUTCH! 😤

With that birdie, Harber qualified for a spot in the 2026 U.S. Open Championship, along side Final Qualifying medalist Davis Thompson of St. Simons Island, who shot 11-under par, and the other two playoff survivors, Holmes and Sviensson — who will be the first Icelandic golfer to play in a U.S. Open.
