Doubles Golf Qualifying continued on Wednesday with The Northern Ohio Golf Association’s Trillium Creek Dermatology Doubles Golf Qualifier #2 at Trumbull Country Club in Warren. Players competed in a “Better-Shot” scramble format for the chance to advance to the Trillium Creek Dermatology NOGA Doubles Golf Championship on September 2nd at StoneWater Golf Club in Highland Heights.
Winners at StoneWater will earn the opportunity to represent Ohio at the U.S. Doubles Golf® National Championship and compete for a national title.
Andrew Cornell and Andrew Perez took their place at the top of the leaderboard with a 7-under 62. The pair, carding nine gross birdies, led the Men’s Division, finishing four shots clear of second.
Abbey Chieffo and Kirby Tibolla started out hot with back-to-back birdies. The pair finished the day with a score of 5-over, 74, securing their spot in the Women’s Division.
The Mixed Division was led by Tina Vanasdal and Ty Kovach of Chippewa Golf Club. Their 1-under, 68, earned them the winning spot in the division.
The Senior Division was neck and neck but ultimately ended in a tie. Teams of Jeff Luken and Ray McNiece, and Lance Fragomeli and Mike Crawford finished 1-under, 68 to tie for the lead. Luken and McNiece’s round was highlighted by 6 birdies. Meanwhile, Fragomeli and Crawford overcame a double bogey with 5 birdies of their own.
Tied for the Net Division title were teams of Cornell and Perez, and Derek Holm and Josh Taylor. Their net scores of 9-under, 60, earned them the title.
The next event on the NOGA Trillium Creek Dermatology Doubles Golf Series is the Doubles Golf Qualifier #3 at Columbia Hills Golf & Swim Club in Columbia Station on August 17th.
