PGA REACH Southern Ohio and the Northern Ohio PGA Golf Foundation are excited to announce the passage and launch of the Play Golf Ohio license plate. A joint venture between the two organizations, the license plate will benefit youth golf initiatives across the state.
“We’re incredibly excited to come together with our partners from the Northern Ohio PGA to get this license plate approved,” noted Southern Ohio Executive Director Patrick Salva and Northern Ohio PGA Executive Director David Griffith in a joint statement. “This license plate was a true collaboration from inception to our upcoming launch. To be able to work with Senator Timken by way of NOPGA Vice-President Cory Kumpf to create the license plate legislation was the first step. Once launched, the plate will benefit youth from across Ohio through our own programs as well as other initiatives like Team Ohio and the United State National Development Program. This is the type of initiative we strive to be a part of.”
The efforts to create the license plate started in the summer of 2025 and was recently approved by the state of Ohio through the passage of Senate Bill 52—a broader transportation package that authorized 19 new specialty plates—building upon the original framework championed by Senator Timken in Senate Bill 212.
“I’m excited to see Ohio offer the specialty ‘Play Golf Ohio’ license plate to support the PGA Foundation,” said Senator Jane M. Timken, primary sponsor of Senate Bill 212. “With each purchase, a $15 contribution will go directly back to supporting programs which serve thousands of people from across the state, supporting children, people with disabilities, and our veterans through the game of golf.”
As part of the announcement, a campaign is being launched to gather feedback on the designs. Three options have been shared with voting open until the end of July.

The license plate will be available for purchase in late 2026 or early 2027.
With each purchase or renewal of the specialty license plate, a $15 contribution (along with a $10 BMV administrative fee) will be collected. The $15 contribution will be split between the Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation and the Southern Ohio PGA Golf Foundation. These funds will be statutorily used to promote golf throughout Ohio, bringing the game to new communities and supporting junior golf initiatives.
