Northern Ohio natives Andrew Bailey and Brandon Pluchinsky both earned their spot in the round of 16 during the 2026 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. This year’s Championship is being conducted at the Sand Valley Resort courses in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, and started on Saturday, September 26. The Championship will continue through Thursday, October 1, with the final match.
Bailey is a Cleveland, OH native and played for the Cleveland State University Men’s Golf Team. Pluchinsky is from North Lima and played at Youngstown State University. Pluchinsky also won one of the most prestigious titles in Amateur golf in Northern Ohio, the Northern Ohio Golf Association’s Northeast Ohio Amateur Championship, back in 2015.
Pluchinsky’s journey in the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship hasn’t been an easy one. Pluchinsky came in as the 55 seed and has upset every match thus far. The match to qualify for the round of 16 was won over Andover, Massachusetts’ Tyler Stahle with a result of 3 & 2.
Bailey kicked off the Championship as the 5 seed and has continued to perform ever since. The round of 32 match that brought Bailey to the round of 16 was won at 4 & 3 over Charlotte, North Carolina’s Matt Schall.
The round of 16 matches will continue on Tuesday, September 29. Pluschinsky teed off at 2:10 pm and Bailey will tee off at 2:55 pm EST.
