Ohio Girls Golf Foundation celebrates 25 years of its signature high school Showcase tournament
Set for Monday, July 20, this year’s Ohio Girls Golf Foundation (OGGF) Showcase featuring LPGA Tour Professional Barb Mucha will kick off the high school golf season by hosting players from all over the state.
Celebrating its 25th year, the event is held at Avon Oaks Country Club in Avon. High school players from around the state, including incoming freshmen and graduated seniors, will enjoy a series of clinics with area PGA and LPGA golf professionals prior to the tournament.
The 18-hole team and individual event includes breakfast and lunch, and dinner and awards take place after play around 4 p.m.
“I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate 25 incredible years of the Showcase,” says Mucha. “Through the decades, we’ve welcomed golfers of every skill level and standing to learn, compete and grow—while also having fun and making life-long connections.”
For Parma Heights native Mucha, who had to play on the boys’ high school golf team because there was no girls’ team, headlining the OGGF Showcase has become an annual tradition. After playing at Michigan State University, she went on to enjoy a long and distinguished career with the LPGA (1987-2007), including five major wins. But her consistency is even more impressive than her victories. She posted top 10 finishes in 115 of the 321 LPGA tournaments she played in. She has carded six wins on the Futures Tour, and one win on the Legends Tour, as well as represented the United States on winning Handa Cup teams in 2014 and 2015. In 2011, Mucha was inducted into the Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame.
The Foundation’s mission is to encourage, sponsor and support the game of golf for girls by providing college scholarships, golf training programs and financial assistance.
