Stow’s Dave Trier got up-and-down from the greenside bunker at the 18th hole at Turkeyfoot for he and Dean Cutlip to stay at 7-under par for the day, earning a one-shot victory in the 2026 Akron District Golf Association’s Parke H. Thornton 2-Player Better Ball on Saturday.
The hole location on the par-3 18th at Turkeyfoot was cut in a rarely-seen spot at the bottom of the super-sloped kidney-shaped green, directly between the two bunkers. Getting the ball to stay anywhere close to the hole was difficult if a player’s tee shot didn’t finish in the small space directly below the pin.

Case in point, the team of Ryan Stefanski + Brian Smith came into that same 18th hole at 7-under par on the day, but neither player could get up and down after both missed the green. They finished as one of the three teams in second place at 6-under par 65, along side Mark Guadagni + Jim Durr and Mike Simpson + Robert Wakeling.
Cutlip made three birdies on the day in shooting 72, giving his partner the boost they needed for victory as Trier played outstanding golf: a five-birdie, one-bogey 67. Together, the duo totaled a 7-under par 64.
Five teams finished at 4-under par 67 to earn T5.
For most of the day, it looked like the $2,740 skin pot would be split between two teams until the last swing of the day by ADGA Co-Director Kyle Jones almost went in for an ace and canceled a birdie skin that had been holding up on 18. David Swab + Mason Sokolowski were ecstatic with that cancellation, as that left the eagle-2 made on the reachable par-4 fifth hole by Sokolowski as the lone skin winner of the event. Combined with their T5 finish, the pair’s total haul for the day was exactly $3,000.
The next event on the Association’s 2026 calendar is the ADGA 2-Player Shamble on Saturday, August 22 at Fox Den Golf Course in Stow. Entries for that event will open on Saturday, August 1 at 7:00 a.m.
