The Northern Ohio Golf Association’s portion of Doubles Golf Qualifying concluded on Wednesday with the Trillium Creek Dermatology Doubles Golf Championship at StoneWater Golf Club in Highland Heights. Players competed in a “Better-Shot” scramble format for the chance to advance to the Ohio State Doubles Golf Championship on October 10th at NCR Country Club in Kettering.
Winners at NCR will earn the opportunity to represent Ohio at the U.S. Doubles Golf® National Championship and compete for a national title.
Andrew Cornell and Andrew Perez once again took the top spot in the Men’s Division. The pair carded 11 birdies to finish at 10-under-par 61 and earn a qualifying spot in the Ohio State Championship.
Also qualifying for NCR in the Men’s Division were Cyle Halbrook and Ryan Hufnagle, who earned the only skin of the day with an eagle on hole 5.
The Women’s Division was led by Tacy McDonough and Evelyn Johnson. The team shot 6-under-par 66 to win the Division by three. Katie Kinast and Gina Tuscano will also advance to the Ohio State Championship.
Tina Vanasdal and Ty Kovach were the only couple to compete in the Mixed Division and will advance to the next stage of the Championship. Their 2-under-par 69 was an impressive finish on a brutally hot day.
The Senior Division ended in a four-way tie. Teams of Jeff Luken and Ray McNiece, and Mike Zatezalo and Scott Heran won the USGA method tiebreaker to ultimately qualify. Both teams finished 4-under-par 67.
Tied for the Net Division title were teams of Cornell and Perez, and Kinast and Tuscano. Their net scores of 10-under-par 61 earned them the title.
